How about making a nice collage, framing them, and hanging them near your front door as a reminder to keep track of your expiration dates?!

If the card is expired less than one year, you can exchange it using a MetroCard vending machine. You will be told your card is expired, do you want a new card? Choose Yes. Your old card will be returned, marked invalid, you can throw it away. Then you will get a new card at no charge, with whatever value was on your old card.
